The Student Experience.
I believe a common theme throughout the past modules has been a disconnect between what teachers and other adults see verses what actually goes on in a student's life. In the module that discussed the struggles of being a teacher, in the beginning of the film we get to watch the frustration experienced by teachers when their students are not meeting educational goals and standards. Soon after that we are exposed to how this feels for the student. For them i believe it is even more upsetting. In the module that discusses school violence we add in the factor of fear that is present in a student's life. We are aware of school shootings but do we ever really think of how it is affecting the well being of our students. On top of the pressure to succeed is the stress of the possibility that they could go to school and have their lesson interrupted by gun shots. Along with those factors for some students is the pressure of living in poverty. We always emphasis the importance of brainfood but what about the students that don't have a bed let alone dinner. Some students on a daily basis deal with the pressure to excel, as well as the fear of being hurt, and the stress of not knowing where they are going to sleep or eat that night while attending or missing class. All of these factors place a tremendous impact on our students and we are far too often are oblivious to it.
