Education Week & Parent Teacher Relationships

One surprising thing i read this week in education week was that even gifted educators say their classes don't reach all who need them. I can understand why average school systems could be failing to reach students in need for their practices might be outdated or just insignificant in those student's lives. But the fact that programs that are going above and beyond are still struggling to get to those students is obviously problematic. Clearly there is still more work to be done for the sake of these students.

As a future elementary school teacher i think that the most significant topic for my occupation that we covered in this course is parent teacher relationships. Children are often shy about their personal lives and can't be expected to explain or even comprehend serious situations that may be going on directly in their lives or in the lives of those around them. Getting to know their parents is a technique to get to know each and everyone of them as individuals. Through relationships with their parents i might be able to help them handle situations in school or know which topics may be sensitive or difficult for them. Since day one of my educational career as an education major i have know that parent teacher relationships were going to play a significant role in my professional career as a elementary school teacher.
